#TEDxYouthCT: Meet Caitlyn Roux

Caitlyn Roux_TEDxYouthCapeTown

Caitlyn Roux is a student at Vega Brand School in Cape Town. She applied to be a TEDxYouth@CapeTown speaker to get out of her comfort zone by trying something that she had never done before. Also to see if she would like it.

In response to what or who inspires her she says, “I pretty much inspire myself because I push myself to try and experience new things. My mom is also a huge inspiration for me, supporting me and just affirming for me that I can do anything that I set my mind to.”

Caitlyn’s journey to the TEDx stage:

What do you hope to gain from the experience of being a TEDx speaker?

I hope that what I share with people will leave a mark on them and get them thinking. For myself, I will see it as something that I really wanted to do, and simply went and did it with no regrets.

The talk is only a few weeks away, how are you feeling about it?

I am quite nervous as I have never spoken in front of a very large group of people. I am also excited as I am passionate about my topic. This is what is motivating me to carry on.

If you had a superpower what would it be?

To be invisible - I love people watching, ha ha.

If you could sing a duet with anyone, who would it be?

Tracy Chapman, ‘Give me one reason’.
