Recognised as one of the 100 Brightest Young Minds in Africa, Cindy Mkaza-Siboto is the co-founder of Emagqabini Education Academy, an educational non-profit organisation operating in Site B Khayelitsha.
The organisation - which was established to assist young people from the township through academic support, mentorship and career planning- started off assisting 15 learners and today supports more than 100 young people.
The opportunity to speak at this year’s TEDxCapeTown main event is an exciting one for Cindy, who not only aims to inspire more young people to see the impact of the smallest actions, but hopes to spread the message far and wide that we can all be part of creating change in our communities. A sentiment we can all learn from and adopt.
We asked Cindy a couple of random questions to help you get a feel for the person soon to be on the TEDxCapeTown stage.
If you had a superpower what would it be?
I would love to be able to fly so I could explore the sky.
If you could time travel, where would you go?
Definitely not anywhere backwards, hee hee. I would travel to the future - Wakanda!
If you could sing a duet with anyone, who would it be?
Beyonce! We could belt out “Grown woman!'
