#HumansBehindTEDxCapeTown: Meet Sarka Svoboda

Sarka Svoboda

“The interview questions? I didn’t make any progress last night, even though I stared at it for ages.”

So relatable. And so entirely human.

Meet Sarka Svoboda: TEDxCapeTown social media support extraordinaire and genuine human. Having a bad day? There aren’t many that can put a smile on your face like Sarka can. Her uplifting personality and hilarious sidebar commentary brightens every team Zoom meeting--and leaves us grinning from ear to ear by the end of the call.

Do you have a human like Sarka in your life? We truly hope you do. Today, we’ll shed a little light on the woman who has brought nothing but positivity to the team since 2018.

What’s your astrological sign?

Scorpio. But I don’t really believe in Astrology!

What’s your favourite season?

If I have to choose one it would be Aut-Spri (yes, it is a combination of Autumn and Spring) because Summer gets too hot and Winter gets too cold!

Favourite lockdown activity?

Quality time with pets and loved ones. But please don’t trust me to look after your pet.

What’s your favourite food?

Food. All of it. But really, as long as it’s fresh and good quality I’m a happy bunny.

Do you draw energy from being around people or by having time to yourself?

Both! I need time to recharge on my own--but one doesn’t want to live on a deserted island alone, either. I need both to be happy!

Where is your happy place?

Walking along the beach where the waves and sand meet.

What are you most afraid of right now?

Things are tough for so many [people] right now. Local businesses are being brought down, and so many people are really struggling. I worry they won’t get the help they need.

What are you most hopeful for?

That whatever realignment is happening globally will change our world for the better. Oh! And also that climate change will finally be taken seriously and acted upon by politicians and big corporations.

Give us a song to add to our playlist!

Thunder by Imagine Dragons. That song always transports me right back to a summer spent with my twin nephews--it was their favourite song and we had it blasting at full volume on each and every car journey. Warm days, good music and the people I love? Those are moments to never forget.

And a quote to leave us with?

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” - Aristotle
