TEDxCapeTown 2020 Theme: Intersections of change

With the start of a new decade, some of us are reimagining a path for ourselves for the next ten years or, still reflecting on what took place during the previous ten  to make sense of what’s happening now. Perhaps you are super focused on being part of creating a collective strategy to affect much needed global change. No matter what you are experiencing, we all make up parts of a global sum.

As TEDxCapeTown we want to unpack Intersections of Change - the places where we meet/ cross borders in the spirit of humanity; where we come together to challenge existing paradigms to affect change for yourself, your community, the continent or the globe.

Our interconnectedness consistently takes centre stage when the world's oxygen, water and ecosystems are at risk. Not to mention that one individual death can remind us all that one good human, can have a global impact.

The Ubuntu spirit (I am because WE are) in this new decade requires focus as more movements play a pivotal role in promoting collective action, development and engagement. Globally, there’s a huge focus on redefining the future of work; strengthening our communities; using crypto, blockchain and 3D printing for decentralised change, and TED has also kicked off a global countdown to zero carbon emissions.

As citizens of this continent, we’ve proven to be global game-changers, but how are we coming together to break down mental barriers to ensure that we engage constructively and implement lasting change in 2020 and beyond?

Let’s set the tone to redefine the next decade for (South) Africa and the world.

Do you have a burning passion for something that the world needs to know about? Can you speak about it? Is it a remarkable idea worth spreading? Will it entertain, inspire and inform us all at the same time? Is it suited to a TED-like experience? If you answered yes to most of these questions, you can and should apply to become one of the next TEDxCapeTown speakers!

TEDx is not just a conference, it is a filmed production, and speaking at TEDxCapeTown is about much more than your appearance on stage. We are building a community of people who are engaging in meaningful change. Your attitude towards creating community and paying it forward is as important as your idea worth spreading!

Immerse yourself in the various TED talks available on the internet and perhaps also take a look at the official TED speaker guideline.
