Dave Springer

David is a PhD student at Oxford, working on trying to solve health issues in South Africa using low-cost technology. David spends most of his time listening to heart sounds, playing with kitchen utensils or sending people SMS-reminders to take their medication. When not doing that, he plays the bagpipes. In his talk he will explore the use of dumb hardware, like an egg cup, together with smart software on a mobile phone, to detect heart disease in kids in areas where doctors are hard to find.
