What We Do: Take TEDx beyond the stage to new audiences, to expose, engage and inspire 'ideas worth spreading'

How? Our team focuses on Community Engagement that take TEDxCapeTown to selected events around Cape Town and further, where we screen curated TED and TEDx talks.

The Mission: Screen 3 TED/TEDx talks to complement the theme "Agile Leadership" at the UCT Graduate School of Business For Tomorrow Conference.

Partnership & Event: TEDxCapeTown’s Community Engagement team, partnered with the UCT GSB Consulting Club to host an activation at their annual "Business For Tomorrow" event, to stimulate and highlight discussion around the theme of "Agile Leadership", these annual conference are unique in that they are organised and run by the enrolled MBA Students at the Graduate School of Business.

'Agile Leadership: Preparing for an Unconventional Career Path', by Emily Phillips

How do you navigate life without knowing all of the answers? How do you transition from student to expert? We live in a rapidly changing environment where technology accelerates the pace of interactions and expectations of knowledge. The new normal demands versatile and adaptive talent to handle the ambiguities life presents us; learning how to be fearless in the face of unknowns provides us the ability to unlock success in our careers as modern-day change agents. This talk will outline the benefits of not being afraid of what you don’t know and the advantages of living life as a leader in our community. Watch video here.

'The Power of Small Idea - In Praise of the Side-Project', by Dave Duarte

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Dave is a passionate educator and entrepreneur. He is a big believer in the value of side-projects and shares his passion for them with us on stage. Dave is CEO of Treeshake, an educational design and production company. Previously he was Programme Director at the University of Cape Town. In 2014 Dave was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. Watch video here.

'The Ripple Effect of Training Young Leaders', by Fred Swaniker

Fred Swaniker has lived and worked in 10 different African countries. He passionately believes that good leadership is the most critical need for the continent. He has founded two organizations that aim to catalyze a new generation of ethical, entrepreneurial African leaders: African Leadership Academy and the African Leadership Network, both fulcrums of leadership training for the continent. Watch video here.
